As Maya Angelou once said, "When you know better, you do better."
Keri Russell, John Stamos, Henry Cavill and John Goodman took her words to heart when they each taped a segment for NBC's Late Night With Seth Meyers titled "A Message to My Younger Self." In Wednesday's video montage, the actors took turns giving advice to their former selves.
"Hey little Keri. It's me, older Keri," the 40-year-old Americans star said. "Your life is going to be so exciting, but whatever you do, don't cut your hair short during the second season of Felicity. No, I'm serious. People will freak the hell out. You'll get hate mail. You'll even get death threats. But, gradually, your hair will grow back and your fans will forgive you, but you will never—and I repeat never—forgive your fans. And you will have learned a valuable lesson: Never trust anyone." Stamos' words of wisdom also had to do with his appearance. "Hey, Little John. You will have a fantastic life as long as you make sure you do one thing. Now, on your 18th birthday, the Prince of Darkness—Satan—will offer you eternal youth in exchange for your soul," the 52-year-old Fuller House actor said. "Little John, I'm telling you right now: You take that deal, son."
When it was Cavill's turn, he referenced his role as Clark Kent/Superman in the upcoming movie Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. "Hey, little Henry. Your life is going to be filled with so much joy and happiness, but when you turn my age, your biggest dream will come true. You finally get to be in a Batman movie. You know how you have all those Batman posters in your bedroom and how you run around pretending to Batman and always say, 'Batman rules! He could be any other superhero in a fight, hands down. It shouldn't even be a question!' Well, Henry, this movie has it all. The Batsuit, the car and all the cool gadgets," the 32-year-old actor said. "As for your part in the film, I think it's best we wait until you're old enough to handle it."
Goodman, meanwhile, referenced a very specific incident from his past that haunts him to this day. "Hey, Little Johnny. You're going to have a great career and a happy life without any regrets, except one: When you're out playing by the creek with Jimmy and the boys, they're going to dare you to throw a rock at a duck, and you will. And you'll hit that duck square in the eye. Your friends laugh, but you feel terrible, and it won't end there because everywhere you go, for the rest of your life, that duck will follow you, looking at you with his one good eye, pointing at you with his outstretched wing as if to say, 'You! You did this to me!'" the 63-year-old said, addressing the duck. "He just sits there pointing. Never not pointing. So, when you're there at the creek with that rock in your hand and the duck in your sights, make sure you kill it."
