BravoHe's usually an impartial voice, showering his beloved Real Housewives with equal amounts of love and playful derision so as to not play favorites, but during the first part of the Real Housewives of Atlanta's reunion special, even Andy Cohen seemed to have reached a boiling point with Kenya Moore.
Towards the end of the hour—the first of three—topic of conversation turned to Kenya's feud with newbie Kim Fields. After Kenya declared that she was the star of the show (which earned plenty of raised eyebrows from just about every other woman on the couches who definitely think otherwise) and that she brought Kim into the group, so she shouldn't bit the hand that feeds her (which earned a puzzled look from Andy, who actually pays their bills), Andy mentioned that they'd received plenty of tweets insinuating that Kenya was jealous of Kim. And from there, it was off to the races.
"Listen, I'm not going to take anything away from the fact that she was a child star," Kenya replied, honoring Kim's start on The Facts of Life, while deliberately ignoring her later success on Living Single. Andy wasn't having it.
"She's also continued working since then," he countered.
"Yes, in the ‘90s, she did," Kenya responded, already betraying her earlier snide comment.
Again, Andy wasn't about to let it go. "You were Miss USA in the ‘90s," he said, reminding her of the credit she was ready to throw down with Porsha Williams over when the latter confused it with another beauty pageant in their first season on the show.
"Let me finish. I have a career that spans over 30 years myself. I can pay my bills," she said, now pivoting away from her dismissal of Kim's career and towards her new dig at her enemy's supposed financial woes. "I don't have tax liens. I don't have foreclosures."
Kenya continued to insinuate that when Kim said "I'm Kim Fields" to her husband after a heated argument with Kenya, she was belittling the entire group and revealing that she felt superior to them. Again, Andy had no chill and pointed out that Kenya was being more than a little hypocritical. "If you're walking around saying, ‘I'm gone with the wind fabulous,' isn't that your own declaration?" he asked.
"Those are two totally different things," Kenya replied.
At this point, the other ladies began to back Andy up. Kandi Burruss stepped in first, asking: "Can we roll back to what you just said a little while ago? ‘I am the star of this show!'"
Kenya tried to wiggle out of that one on a technicality: "I said a star."
"No, you said the," Kandi repeated.
Phaedra Parks backed her friend Kim up, adding, "It's not arrogance if your resume adds up, and baby, your resume adds up."
Before Andy took the show to break, Kim stood up for herself, shutting down this talk of her arrogance. "I don't just walk around all day, ‘I'm Kim Fields. F--k you,'" she said. "What? That's foolishness."
With the first hour wrapping on Kenya talking about how she's not a bully because she's been bullied on the stage (The bullied can't become bullies? Uh, OK.)—and Sheree Whitfield speaking for the entire audience when she turned to Kandi and muttered "I can't take it."—we're all but guaranteed more of her patented brand of reunion special insanity. But the question is: Will be get more Andy Cohen sass? We can only hope.
