Ansel Elgort was feeling the love at The Divergent Series: Allegiant premiere.

In addition to walking the red carpet alongside his co-stars Jeff Daniels, Nadia Hilker, Keiynan Lonsdale, Theo James, Zoë Kravitz, Maggie Q, Bill Skarsgård, Miles Teller, Naomi Watts and Shailene Woodley, Elgort also happened to be celebrating his 22nd birthday Monday night. "It feels great," he told E! News at AMC Lincoln Square Theater in New York City. "I haven't gotten many gifts. I mean, I've gotten a few, but mostly what I've gotten is love from my friends and family. That means the most to me. Really, I'm not trying to be cheesy. It's just so nice to come home and spend time with everybody because this premiere actually gave me an excuse to come home. My parents' house is a few blocks from here; it's where I grew up. It's pretty nice."

Elgort's entire family came out to support him, as did his high school sweetheart, Violetta Komyshan. What the actor didn't realize at the time, however, was that his co-stars had a few birthday surprises in store for him. "I think we're going to pants him right before he goes onstage," Woodley revealed. Kravitz added, "Apparently we're all throwing things at him. People keep on saying we're throwing a cupcake in his face. I think Theo mentioned throwing him in the air. I'm going to throw my shoe at him later. I think he's just going to get attacked!"

Before the movie began, the cast serenaded Elgort by singing "Happy Birthday," which he shared on Snapchat. "Theo and Shailene started a big 'Happy Birthday' song for me as a surprise right before the movie started. It was really fun," he said on NBC's Today Tuesday. "They brought out an opera singer." And if Teller planned prank the birthday boy later that night, he wasn't telling. Instead, the actor told E! News, "I might get him a lot of shots tonight at the open bar—a lot of free shots."

During the film's official after-party at Cipriani 42nd Street, an eyewitness reveals that Elgort spent "the whole night" holding hands with Komyshan. "He did not leave her out of his sight."

The Divergent Series: Allegiant is in theaters Friday.
