The handsome singer stopped to chat with Ryan Seacrest during E!'s Live From the Red Carpet ahead of tonight's big award show, and Seacrest made sure to keep his promise to the English star.
"It just works out while we were chatting at the Grammys, we discussed what would make you most comfortable at your first Oscars. And you actually said English tea with British notes, so Wolfgang Puck happened to see that and this is English tea with British notes for you," Seacrest said while handing Smith and Jimmy Napes a tray of tea.
"It's very easy to maneuver the carpet with that," Seacrest joked, "You have no idea how many conference calls there were about the British milk, literally last night up until 8:45, 9 at night."
And just like that, Ryan was having a tea party with Sam Smith and Jimmy Napes on the red carpet at the Academy Awards. Are we missing our invite, yes? Are we bitter? A little, but with some time, we'll be OK.
"Cheersy," Sam said to the viewers, "To the Queen!"
Smith and Napes are nominated tonight for Best Original Song for "Writing's on the Wall" from Spectre, and the experience was definitely a memorable one for the musician. "For me, it was just pure excitement that I got to meet Barbara and Sam Mendes and just given a script of something so incredible. It's the first time we've ever done a song for a film. It's crazy that we've done it to Bond," Smith said, and spoke pretty highly of Barbara.
"Other than my mother, Barbara to me is—I don't know if you agree—she's the classiest woman I've ever met in my entire life she's got so much, I don't know, she's just incredible. I love her I wish she was my family."
Speaking of family, Sam's good luck gift from his father is absolutely hilarious.
LOL! Dad for the win.
