Watch: David Furnish on Elton John's "Musical Fantasy" Biopic

Where in the world is Elton John's biopic?

"We are putting together our financing," the music legend's husband David Furnish told me earlier today at a preview of the Elton John AIDS Foundation's Oscar party in West Hollywood. "It's an ongoing process raising money for a film and we also want to make it in the way we feel it needs to be made. It's a musical fantasy biopic. It's very much an exaggerated, magnificent version of Elton's life as it might have happened so we very much want the right partners and finance in place to do the job properly."

Tom Hardy signed on to play John in October 2013. Shooting was supposed to begin about a year later.

One thing that will definitely be happening—The Elton John Band will perform for the first time at the party on Sunday night. Bulgari will auction of a "priceless" diamond necklace to benefit the foundation. A Lalique sculpture designed by John will also be on the auction block.

The guest list includes Mariah Carey, Caitlyn Jenner, Heidi Klum, Lea Michele, Kate Beckinsale, Nikki Reed, Ian Somerholder, Cheyenne Jackson, Taye Diggs, Jeffrey Tambor and Jeremy Renner.

Furnish looks forward to the day that the EJAF party will no longer be needed. "Elton and I have dedicated our lives to fighting HIV/AIDS," he said. "Nothing would make us happier in the world then to have a party maybe to say we did it and we've reached that magic milestone. But a lot of ground to cover from now and then."

The night's menu is once again designed by Gordon Ramsay and prepared by chef Wayne Elias from Crumble Catering and Rockwell Table & Stage. Specialty cocktails using Neuro drinks will be served.
