On Thursday, Sarah Michelle Gellar Instagrammed an an amazing throwback picture of herself, Selma Blair, Reese Witherspoon, Ryan Phillippe and some other folks who worked on the cult hit. According to Gellar, who is reprising her role as Kathryn Merteuil in NBC's Cruel Intentions series, meaning that pilot just got a whole lot cooler. , the photo comes from a 1998 kickoff dinner for the movie which was originally called Cruel Inventions!
Gellar announced her role in the upcoming spin-off series yesterday, Instagramming a photo of herself alongside Cruel Intentions director Roger Kumble and executive producer Neal Moritz.
"That's right, 'everybody loves me, and I intend to keep it that way,'" she captioned the pic of the trio, quoting one of her character's most memorable lines. "kathrynmerteuil is back!!! I am happy to say that I will be joining them (and @nbctv) on the new #Crueltv."
The series, which serves as a follow-up to the 1999 movies, will follow Kathryn's quest to control Bash—the son of Annette Hargrove (originally played by Witherspoon), and the deceased Sebastian Valmont (originally played Phillippe), as he leaves his small Kansas town to learn more about his family's legacy at Brighton Preparatory Academy.
Yes, we're as excited as you on this one! Our fingers are crossed, too, that the rest of the original Cruel Intentions cast will cross paths with Kathryn in the series as well.
