Tina Fey shot an AK-47 for the first time while filming Whiskey Tango Foxtrot, and things almost got a little messy...

The actress sat down with E! News' Will Marfuggi and revealed the funny story before her first experience with the rifle.

"I was very respectful. I was trying to very seriously take the instructor—even though I was shooting blanks," she recalled. "But it was funny, when I went to shoot it, I was supposed to shoot across these fields at these barrels and stuff, and I was getting ready to finally shoot it after all the safety instructions, and then right behind the barrels comes the Kraft service lady with like a tray of hot dogs."

LOL! Well, that could have been very bad. Luckily, Fey spotted her before finally pulling the trigger, but it definitely went down as a big lesson for her throughout the film.

In fact, safety was something Fey thought a lot about while taking on this role as journalist Kim Barker, recounting her wartime coverage in Afghanistan and Pakistan. Though she always felt safe on set, she says there were several moments where she couldn't help but try to put herself in the shoes of soldiers and other people that were actually involved in the war.

"You kind of always have it in the back of your mind that you are basically safe unless you screw up and run the wrong direction," Fey explained. "I think the biggest challenge of the movie is trying to imagine what it would feel like in that same environment where you truly don't know what's going to happen because that's got to be truly terrifying."

Whiskey Tango Foxtrot also stars Margot Robbie, Billy Bob Thornton, Christopher Abbott, Martin Freeman and Alfred Molina. and hits theaters March 4, 2016.
