Sam Smith has had an incredible few years since his rise to fame in 2012, coming quite a distance from his first breakthrough song on Disclosure's "Latch."

However, he admits that the ride has definitely taken a bit of a toll on him, revealing to Deadline that he had hoped to take a year off this year...that is, until he found out he was nominated for an Academy Award.

"Obviously, the Oscars have changed stuff a little bit, because I was meant to just have the entire year off," he revealed. "I've learned some stuff about myself in the past few months, and the truth is, I can't take time off."

But don't get too excited just yet. He's in no rush to get more music out right now.

He continued, "I haven't got a plan to release anything as of yet, and I don't think I want to release anything for a bit. I just want the music to be right, so at the moment I'm just trying to get back to a comfortable place."

After being apart from them for several years, Smith also plans to spend some time at home with his family following the Oscars.

"I'm trying to live as well a little bit, and I think next month I'm going to force myself to just stay at home and see my mum and dad and my sisters," he said. "Because I feel like I've missed out on their lives a bit the last few years, so that's my plan."

Essentially, he hopes to get back to the "core" of his writing, stepping out of the Hollywood spotlight for a bit to rediscover that inspiration.

"When I go to these big events it's amazing, but you know, this year for me is my time to just pretend like all of that never happened and then walk back into it."
