Kate Hudson is an open book.

E! News' Catt Sadler caught up with the Mother's Day actress at Barnes & Noble in New York City's Union Square Tuesday, where she opened up about writing her first book, Pretty Happy: Healthy Ways to Love Your Body (in stores now). Hudson hopes her book will help readers ask important questions about the kind of people they want to be. "I think women feel a lot of pressure to look a certain way, to be a certain way, to be a certain kind of mom," she explained.

One chapter deals with "rediscovering pleasure" after childbirth. "Hormones are a funny thing. You have to sort of let it happen," said Hudson, who has sons with ex-husband Chris Robinson and ex-fiancé Matt Bellamy. "That's hopefully another book that I'll get into [it] more in-depth."

"All women are so different. Some their sex drive is just gone. Some it amplifies and men are like, 'Hey, you're terrifying me.' Hormonally, you just never know how you're going to react," she said. "For me, personally, I think that there's sort of this great little bubble that you go into after you have a baby where both mom and dad sort of experience—and I don't mean this in a negative way, I mean this in a very positive way—[kids] shift the balance off-kilter of the home." As a result, she said, sex isn't a priority. "Some things do kind of get put to the side."

However, Hudson clarified that the chapter in question is "not necessarily about sex as much as it is about your sensuality and feeling connected." For women, she said, it's about embracing "your femininity and your sexuality, not necessarily giving it away. It's more about what it feels like, that sort of flirtatious openness that you can feel, to have fun and sort of feel sexy. It's important."

On Wednesday, Hudson appeared on CBS This Morning and fielded questions about Nick Jonas. In a recent Complex cover story, the "Levels" singer declined to reveal whether he's had sex with Hudson, but told the magazine that they share "a really beautiful connection." Pressed about her relationship with the singer, Hudson said, "He's a great guy." And what would he say about her? "Apparently, that we have a really beautiful connection," Hudson said with a laugh.

"I'm having a great time," she added. "I'm pretty happy."
