These 2016 Grammy Awards performers are dropping like flies.

After it was revealed that Rihanna had to cancel her scheduled performance during music's biggest night after going on doctor-ordered vocal rest, E! News has now learned that Lauryn Hill also backed out of a planned surprise drop in on The Weeknd's rousing set early in the show, claiming the Grammys announced her participation without her consent. Hill's camp has released a statement detailing her side of things, making clear that her involvement was never a done deal.

"The Grammys announced a performance by Ms. Lauryn Hill prematurely and without approval. Ms. Hill had concerts all weekend, leaving no time to prepare, and was uncertain she would even be able to make it to LA in time to rehearse for the event," the statement reads. "Any performance that could have happened was never confirmed, and should not have been advertised as such. Ms. Hill was invited to do a collaboration with an artist she appreciates. The performance was intended to be a surprise and unfortunately due to its last minute nature, was unable to come to fruition."

While it would have been a major music moment to see Hill perform alongside The Weeknd, the "Earned It" singer certainly didn't need any help to turn in a performance worth talking about. For his first time on the Grammys stage, he delivered a stripped-down set that included his smash hit "Can't Feel My Face" and "In the Night."

All in all, it was a great night for The Weeknd. The singer also took home two Grammys for Best R&B Performance and Best Urban Contemporary Album before the show even began and walked the red carpet with girlfriend Bella Hadid for the first time as a couple.

Are you bummed that we were robbed of a rare performance from Lauryn Hill? Or did The Weeknd deliver all on his own? Let us know in the comments below.
