Well, this is certainly intriguing.
In Kristen Stewart's latest return to the silver screen, the former Twilight star is trying her hand at the sci-fi genre in Equals.
Directed by Drake Doremus, the film centers around two people who fall in love despite the fact that emotions have been obliterated from their futuristic utopian society.
Stewart stars alongside Nicholas Hoult, who plays a fellow illustrator in the film and love interest after an emotion-triggering disease infects them both. We just can't believe how grown up and dapper the actor looks since his breakout role as a British cherub in About a Boy more than a decade ago.
Despite a clear view of the stars in their eerie matching outfits, little is clear about the actual plot. Shot after shot, we see them exchanging glances in a sea of monotonous environments. No one speaks—the only communication is through their mysterious eyes.
Still, if you listen carefully, the pulsing lyrics "Everybody's got a secret to hide" from the Chromatics' "Kill For Love" ring out as a sign that this saga may end tragically. The movie's tagline, "Would you risk everything to feel something?" only further drives the notion that something is about to go horribly awry.
Fortunately, the trailer does offer glimmers of happiness as K. Stew is shown laughing in bed and embracing with her lover in the shower.
"Just remember what this feels like," her voice rings out at the close of the clip.
We just can't wait to see what this movie looks like.
