Watch: Sam Smith & Jimmy Napes on Making "Writing's on the Wall"

It's been a big year already for Sam Smith and Jimmy Napes.

Between toasting their success with other A-list hopefuls such as Leonardo DiCaprio, Lady Gaga and Jennifer Lawrence, the incredible writing duo sat down with E! News at the annual Academy Awards nominee luncheon at the Beverly Hilton to chat all about James Bond and their Oscar nomination for the Spectre song "Writing's on the Wall.

"We poured our hearts out," 23-year-old Smith gushed, discussing the process of writing with Napes after they were given the script for Spectre

"It's a different challenge because you've got to write something actually from a script, normally you're just plucking something out of real life and trying to write a song based on that," Napes adds, "but here we had a script, which is something new for us."

The talented English artists admit that they have always been huge James Bond fans, and that writing for the movie was amazing to them, especially since they had to tailor the song to the film —without even seeing it!

Both Sam and Jimmy took to Instagram to share the excitement with fans, posting the same picture (with different filters, of course!).

Smith captions the photo, "Another f--king surreal day with @jimmynapes x" and Napes writes, "The fact that we've been nominated for an Oscar suddenly became very real today @samsmithworld," with a very humble praying-hands emoji.

Gone are the days when no one had ever heard of the music in the Best Original Song category! Smith and Napes are in the running against chart-toppers such as The Weeknd's "Earned It" and "Til It Happens To You," written and performed by Lady Gaga.

This is both Sam and Jimmy's first Oscar nomination, which is no small feat. We're thinking Sam had better make some room for another trophy next to his Grammys and that Golden Globe he won last month!
