Sure, Chipotle has made many, many people sick while their restaurants were plagued with an E. coli outbreak, but what better way to make it up to the masses than with free burritos!

On the day the company closed every single restaurant to have a nation-wide meeting with employees to go over safety measures, they're also offering up free food to anyone with a phone and a enough fingers to send a text.

All you have to do is text "RAINCHECK" to 888-222. You'll receive a link where you can enter your name and zip code and Chipotle will send you a coupon for a free burrito with 10 days.

It's a good strategy, because there isn't much that Americans love more than free food. Except when it's free food that takes less than 10 seconds to get.

If you've text Chipotle already and you still haven't received a response, don't fret. According to their Twitter account, the robots responding to all the messages are a bit behind.

But can we also talk about Qdoba dropping some shade on Twitter in response to Chipotle's giveaway? We see you, Qdoba.

During an investor conference earlier this year, Chipotle CEO Steve Ells revealed that execs met with the Center for Disease Control to discuss the widespread food borne illness, which caused 43 stores to close in November and has infected at least 53 people in nine states thus far.

"I'm hopeful that the CDC will call this over soon," Ells said. "We know that Chipotle is as safe as it's ever been before. We are all very confident that this E. coli outbreak would not happen again."

Only time will tell if these free burritos bring back Chipotle's loyal fanbase.
