The CWTune in to Legends of Tomorrow expecting another superhero show along the lines of Arrow and The Flash? You were probably pretty surprised to find that the CW's newest series was a little more Doctor Who than anything you've seen on the network before.
Some of Arrow and The Flash's favorite superhero guest stars—Arrow's Sara Lance/White Canary (Caity Lotz) and Ray Palmer/Atom (Brandon Routh), The Flash's Leonard Snart/Captain Cold (Wentworth Miller), Mick Rory/Heat Wave (Dominic Purcell), Dr. Stein/Firestorm (Victor Garber) and recently introduced Jax/Firestorm (Franz Drameh), Hawkman (Falk Hentschel) and Hawkgirl (Ciara Renee)—are brought together by a time lord named Rip Hunter (Arthur Darvill) in an attempt to travel through time and stop the immortal villain Vandal Savage (Casper Crump).
But it turns out that the title is super ironic—the crew wasn't chosen because of their future reputations as heroes, but because their existences were mere blips in the timeline and they are able to travel through time with little consequence. But instead of getting sad about their lack of difference in the world and going back to their everyday lives, they all step up and decide to change their futures.
It's quite inspiring, really! And pretty fun, too. This felt more like an extended caper in a fun past setting than a "fight the bad guy of the week" show. And the traveling through time thing is great—although kind of similar to Darvill's last gig helping out the Eleventh Doctor.
"It comes up every once in a while. He talks about it all the time and I'm just like, ‘Okay, Arthur, we get it. You were on Doctor Who,'" joked Routh to E! News while previewing Legends.
The first episode was a little slow-going, storywise, since it had to show how the band got together in the first place, but hopefully with a couple more weeks, it'll find itself.
