Remember when Scully (Gillian Anderson) had a baby? Well, The X-Files finally touched on that story in "Founder's Mutation."
In the episode (which E! News was on set for), Mulder (David Duchovny) and Scully investigate a doctor's mysterious suicide and what drove him to do it. During their investigation, they discover a laboratory and another doctor who have been experimenting on children and genetics for decades…perhaps even William, Scully's son? That's where Scully's mind jumped to.
"Is this what you believe happened to me 15 years ago? When I got pregnant? When I had my baby? Was I just an incubator?" Scully asked Mulder after they met with pregnant young women and saw the genetically-mutated kids.
"You're never just anything to me, Scully," Mulder said.
That's when the William talk happened. He'd be 15 years old now. "Sometimes I hate myself for not having the courage to stand by him," Scully said.
Was he just an experiment? Mulder doesn't know. "What if he's out there, somewhere…fighting for his life?" Scully wondered.
"All we can do, Scully, is pull the thread, see what unravels," Mulder told her.
And they did. But then the Department of Defense came in because…alien DNA.
Scully dreamed about what life would look like if William remained with her. She saw his first day of school, an accident and a mutation. Does William have alien DNA? Something tells us we're not going to get the answer to that…just yet. Mulder also fantasized about living with William. There were games and toy rocket ships, but there was also an alien abduction, just like his sister, Samantha.
Where is William?
The truth is out there.
The X-Files airs Mondays, 8 p.m. on Fox.
