Haven't made it to the movie theater in a while? No worries.

Nominations for the 88th Annual Academy Awards were announced Thursday morning during a two-part news conference in Beverly Hills. Voters for the 2016 Oscars will consider eight movies in the coveted Best Picture category: The Big Short, Bridge of Spies, Brooklyn, Mad Max: Fury Road, The Martian, The Revenant, Room and Spotlight. With global blockbusters like Furious 7, Avengers: Age of Ultron, Jurassic World and Star Wars: The Force Awakens dominating the box office, some of the year's smaller but critically acclaimed films went unnoticed by movie buffs.

The Oscars will be held on Sunday, Feb. 28, at the Dolby Theater at Hollywood & Highland Center and will be televised live on ABC at 7 p.m. ET. Hosted by Chris Rock, the show will be broadcast live in more than 225 countries and territories worldwide.
