It's official: Rooney Mara's badass braid wins Best Hair at the 2016 Golden Globes.

Not old Hollywood waves or an expected updo, the hairstyle challenges the standard of red carpet glamour—it's ever-so sleek from the front and almost utilitarian-like and edgy from the back.

Who is responsible for this surprising marriage of looks? Celeb hairstylist (and Marie Claire Image Maker) Adir Abergel, of course.

The hair pro, who also counts A-listers like Gwyneth Paltrow and Emma Stone as clients, was inspired by the romance of Rooney's Alexander McQueen dress, he said, and wanted "both hard and soft to play a role in this look."

Luckily, he gave us the full breakdown of how to get this look yourself.

Step 1: Start by applying a light oil on dry hair.

Step 2: Flat iron the hair completely straight.

Step 3: Create a parting from ear to ear along the crown.

Step 4: Pull the first section up, first applying a light hold gel into hair, and then pull it into a high ponytail, securing it with elastic.

Step 5: Take the rest of the hair and pull it into a very low ponytail, again applying a light hold gel to create a shiny texture from roots to the beginning of the ponytail.

Step 6: Focusing on the ponytails, he applied some beach spray, drying it and roughing up the texture. (Pro tip: Aim for a "duality in textures": shiny roots and rough ends.)

Step 7: Tightly braid the top section. As you continue braiding, merge the top section with the bottom and continue the braid into the second section. Braid the second section all the way down and secure it with cotton string.

Step 8: Apply some texture spray to the braid and open up the braid for a more deconstructed finish.

Step 9: Finish the look with hairspray, making sure the front of the hair has no flyways.
