Mr. Robot Wins Best TV Drama at 2016 Golden Globes

Rami Malek stars in the USA Network hacker drama

Mr. Robot, this summer's hottest show continues its success streak with the Golden Globe for Best TV Drama.

Fox's Empire, HBO's Game of Thrones, Netflix series Narcos and Starz's Outlander were nominated for in the category. Showtime's The Affair won the award at the 2015 ceremony.

Christian Slater also took home the Best Supporting Actor in a a TV Series, Limited Series or Movie. Jon Hamm beat out Mr. Robot's Rami Malek for the Best Actor in a Drama Series Golden Globe.

Series creator Sam Esmail accepted the award for the series and thanked the Hollywood Foreign Press Association for giving the award to a show called Mr. Robot. "That took a lot of courage, thank you," he said.

Mr. Robot follows Malek as hacker Elliot Alderson and the anti-establishment society fsociety. Slater, Carly Chaikin, Portia Doubleday, Martin Wallstrom also star.

Esmail thanked the crew, name-dropping transport and production assistants, before turning his attention to Malek.

"Our amazing cast led by the brilliant performance of Rami Malek," he said. "And I've got to thank Emmy [Rossum, Esmail's fiancé] for recommending Rami to me and more important for being my best friend. I love you."
