The CWThe Vampire Diaries and The Originals are getting back together, again.
Not only are they moving to Fridays together later this month, but there's also a crossover coming up, according to CW president Mark Pedowitz.
"It's not of the size and scope of Flash and Arrow, but it has to make sense," Pedowitz told reporters during the CW's winter press tour. "If they don't make sense storywise, don't do them. Don't force it, because the audience can tell."
Pedowitz also explained the franchise's new night, which has typically not been the best night for programming.
"The move to Friday is not a move to exile it, it's a move to strengthen Friday night," Pedowitz said. "Because we made a strategic shift on Thursday night with Legends of Tomorrow and The 100, making it male skewed."
According to Pedowitz, The Vampire Diaries and The Originals both tend to triple their numbers in streaming and off-network viewing, so he's hoping that they will help build a Friday night audience.
While there were no renewals announced this morning, Pedowitz did express some great hope for the network's lower-rated shows, like Crazy Ex-Girlfriend and iZombie.
"I have great faith in the show and showrunners," Pedowitz said of Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, which has been critically obsessed over but only managed to hit a million viewers in for its midseason finale. "We believe in the show, we stand by the show, we believe there's a place on our schedule today for a show like this, and we're going to give it a chance to be seen."
Pedowitz also said that he thinks iZombie has a "good strong shot" at a third season, jokingly citing the show's inclusion of a bassett hound as part of the reason he loves it so much, because "bassett hounds are underserved in this community."
As for Reign, which concludes its third season on January 22, a fourth season hasn't yet been decided. "We'll have to see if she makes it back to Scotland," Pedowitz said.
The CW also officially announced that Kevin Smith, who happens to be a comic book aficionado, will be directing an episode of The Flash this season, and Broadway star Lea Salonga, who also voiced Jasmine in Disney's Aladdin, will be guest starring on Crazy Ex-Girlfriend.
