Get ready to say goodbye to Rizzoli & Isles.
TNT boss Kevin Reilly announced during today's winter press event that the relatively long-running series will be ending after one last summer season.
The crime procedural, which stars Angie Harmon and Sasha Alexander, has aired for six seasons on TNT and will end after a seventh and final thirteen episodes that will air this summer.
"I think both ladies have had a really satisfying experience and sort of indicated that they—I don't know if they wouldn't do anymore, but they felt very comfortable, the producers felt that way, it's had a good run," Reilly said. "It felt like it was time, and we all kind of discussed it and everyone said yeah, let's finish out 13 great ones and call it a day. We felt good about that."
Rizzoli & Isles follows the friendship of a medical examiner, Maura Isles (Alexander) and a police detective, Jane Rizzoli (Angie Harmon), and was based on a series of novels of the same name by Tess Gerritsen.
While this is some sad news for Rizzoli & Isles fans, let's look at the bright side: 13 episodes is still plenty of time to give us the beautiful (and possibly romantic) ending we're all hoping for.
Rizzoli & Isles' sixth season will resume on February 16, and the final seventh season will air this summer on TNT.
