John Stamos Throws a Little Shade at the Olsen Twins for Not Reprising Their Role as Michelle Tanner in Fuller House

"It was just like a family reunion where some of the family members didn't show up," he says on The Tonight Show

Fuller House isn't as full as John Stamos would have liked.

When the 52-year-old actor appeared on NBC's The Tonight Show Monday, he told host Jimmy Fallon that it was "so fun" reuniting with Full House's Andrea Barber, Candace Cameron Bure, Dave Coulier, Lori Loughlin, Bob Saget, Jodie Sweetin, Blake Tuomy-Wilhoit, Dylan Tuomy-Wilhoit and Scott Weinger on the revival sitcom, premiering Feb. 26 on Netflix. Mary-Kate Olsen and Ashley Olsen, who alternated playing the role of Michelle Tanner for eight seasons from 1987 to 1995, will not be reprising their roles, much to Stamos' chagrin. "It was just like a family reunion where some of the family members didn't show up," the actor said with a smirk.

Do we detect a little shade?

Earlier in the day, Stamos explained what happened with the Olsen twins during an interview with Howard Stern on Sirius XM. "I think there was some confusion. They said first I didn't ask them. And I didn't personally, but I was told they were asked," he said of the sisters, who have since become well-respected and successful fashion designers. "So, I had a knee-jerk reaction and said, 'Bulls--t, I did ask them.' And they got upset, so I did call and talked to Mary-Kate and explained what the show is going to be and told them I'd love for them to be on there and they decided not to, which I respect." Stamos added that they were "very sweet" about the offer to return. "They seemed very into it," he said. "They just were afraid of acting. They don't consider themselves actresses. I said, 'Maybe you guys will just be in New York and we'll do a phone call or something,' and they were like, 'Let us think about it,' and it just wasn't for them, so..."

Even without the Olsen twins returning, Stamos said seem excited to find out what the TV family is up to when Fuller House debuts next month. "Young girls are hosting binge parties all night, and Saget is going to go to each one of the parties," the actor joked on The Tonight Show.

Working with Coulier and Saget feels like old times, he added. "A lot of the old stories came back up. You know, we used to carpool together, the three of us, to work. This is a 100 percent true story; Bob tells it. We were driving and someone got hit in front of us—jackknife—spinning around. We bolt out, the three of us, and the woman was unconscious in the car, and she comes to and the three faces she looks up at are Bob, Dave and me. It was like she died and went to sitcom hell or something."
