It's finally here!

The first trailer for Independence Day: Resurgence, the sequel to the hit 1996 film was released on Sunday and shows us what happened 20 years after those nasty, squirming, computer-illiterate aliens invaded Earth.

The video shows UN vehicles racing to a spot in the desert.

"We found something out here, something only you might understand," says a woman, who appears to be franchise newcomer Charlotte Gainsbourg's character, Dr. Catherine Marceaux.

"Oh my God," Jeff Goldblum's David Levinson says upon arrival.

Since the July 4, 1996 invasion, humans have united to develop a defense program to protect the planet. But Levinson always suspected the aliens would return.

He says he spent 20 years preparing humanity for what was to come and that humans used the aliens' technology to strengthen the planet and establish the Earth Space Defense (ESD).

"We always knew they would come back," the trailer reads. "But nothing can prepare us for when they arrive."

Commence...yep, another invasion and epic sky and space battles.

The trailer also features a very familiar speech.

Independence Day: Resurgence also stars returning actors Bill Pullman, who played the U.S. president in the first film, Vivica A. Fox, who played Jasmine, the fiancée of Will Smith's Captain Steven Hiller, Brent Spiner and Judd Hirsch, who reprises his role as Levinson's father.

Smith is not in the movie. His character's fate was revealed on the official website of Independence Day: Resurgence: Sadly, Hiller died in 2007.

"While test piloting the ESD's first alien hybrid fighter, an unknown malfunction causes the untimely death of Col. Hiller," the site reads. "Hiller's valor in the War of '96 made him a beloved global icon whose selfless assault against the alien mothership lead directly to the enemy's defeat. He is survived by his wife Jasmine and son Dylan."

In addition to Gainsbourg, newbies include Liam Hemsworth, Joey King, Jessie Usher, who plays Fox's character's son, Sela Ward, who play the new president, and Maika Monroe, who takes over the role of Pullman's character's daughter.

Independence Day: Resurgence is set for release on June 24, 2016.
