The Daily Show got a dose of Jon Stewart last night. The former host returned to his old stomping grounds for the first time since signing off in August.

"I can't believe it! This is awesome," new Daily Show host Trevor Noah said. "Oh, wait, wait, wait, s--t. Are you here to take the show back? Oh man, I heard about this in American TV."

That wasn't the case.

"Trust me—A thousand times no," Stewart said. "I have this issue I care about very deeply and I was wondering -- I want to get attention paid to it but I was realizing I don't have a show, and nobody gives a s--t anymore. So I thought, you have a show, and maybe I could come and…," he said. The issue? The 2010 James Zadroga 9/11 Health and Compensation Act for first responders. The five years of funding are over, but Congress has not renewed the act. As Stewart explained the problems and Congress' lack of action, Noah interjected with questions to highlight the inaction of the government.

Stewart traveled with some of the first responders—and cameras—to Washington, DC to shame senators over the 9/11 bill. Check out the clip above.

Since Stewart ended his tenure on The Daily Show, he signed a production deal with HBO. He also serves as an executive producer on Stephen Colbert's Late Show.

The Daily Show airs Monday-Thursday at 11 p.m. on Comedy Central.
