FOX/CBS/CWThis season shows have been trimmed and held, but only one show was out rightly canceled. However, networks have not been shy about announcing good news for their fall offerings, namely new episodes. CBS ordered seven more episodes of Supergirl, the DC Comics drama about Kara, the cousin of Superman. Melissa Benoist's superhero drama will now clock in at 20 episodes for its first season.
CBS has handed out more episodes to all of its freshman shows, including medical drama Code Black, comedy Life in Pieces and action-drama Limitless. Over on The CW, new offering Crazy Ex-Girlfriend received an additional five episodes so its first season will be 18 episodes total. Remember: 22 episodes is a thing of the past…unless you're a Dick Wolf show which means you can get more than 22. Law & Order: SVU, Chicago PD and Chicago Fire all received an additional episode order bringing their totals to 23. Fire and PD were also renewed for new seasons. Blindspot, which was already renewed for a second season, also received an extra episode.
But not every new show has been as lucky. Monday, Nov. 30 marks the "season finale" of Fox's Minority Report. The drama, which is set in the same world as the Tom Cruise flick, had its episode order reduced to just 10. Recent episodes have been pulling in fewer than 2 million viewers (without DVR ratings, but yikes). Scream Queens, Ryan Murphy's new horror-comedy on Fox, received a straight to series order ahead of its premiere, but there's been no official word on a second season of the Emma Roberts/Jamie Lee Curtis series. NBC's The Player and Truth Be Told have also had their numbers slashed, but the word canceled has not been uttered. Blood & Oil at ABC also saw its first season trimmed. Fellow ABC show Wicked City was the only new series this year to officially get the axe.
Waiting in the wings to face possible trimming and/or success: ABC'S The Catch, The Family, Of Kings and Prophets, The Real O'Neals, Uncle Buck; CBS's Angel From Hell, Rush Hour, Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders; Fox's Bordertown, Cooper Barrett's Guide to Surviving Life, Second Chance, Lucifer, The X-Files (a six-episode event series); NBC's Crowded, Game of Silence, Heartbreaker, Superstore, Telenovela, Shades of Blue and You, Me and the Apocalypse; and The CW has Containment and DC's Legends of Tomorrow. And that's just broadcast.
