Eagles of Death Metal frontman Jesse Hughes got emotional as he spoke about the terrorist massacre at their concert in Paris on Nov. 13, in what marked the group's first interview since the Nov. 13 attacks in the French capital.

The California-based band was performing at Paris' Bataclan theatre in front of when three ISIS terrorists opened fire at the crowd of hundreds. They took people hostage and killed 89 people before police raided the venue and shot dead the assailants.

"Several people hid in our dressing room and the killers were able to get in and killed every one of them except for a kid who was hiding under my leather jacket," Hughes told VICE, sitting next to bandmate Joshua Homme, as seen in an excerpt from an upcoming on-camera interview.

"People were playing dead and they were so scared," he added. "A great reason why so many were killed is because so many people wouldn't leave their friends, so, and, uh, so many people put themselves in front of people."

The massacre at the Bataclan was the worst of several attacks ISIS terrorists carried out in Paris that day, which killed at least 129 people in total and wounded more than 350. It was the deadliest violence to strike France since World War II.

The Eagles of Death Metal musicians survived, escaping through a backstage exit, while their merchandising manager, Nick Alexander, and three colleagues from their record label, Thomas Ayad, Marie Mosser, and Manu Perez, died in the attack. The band later put out a statement mourning their loss and canceled all remaining shows.
