The Black Mass star and his daughter, Lily-Rose Depp, are incredibly close, but as a father he worries about her like any parent would. Thankfully he knows that she has a good head on her shoulders, but that doesn't mean he isn't always thinking about her. Lily-Rose revealed this summer that she's sexually fluid, which the Pirates of the Caribbean actor said wasn't out of left field.
"She's got thousands of followers on social media, and they were all taken completely by surprise," Johnny tells The Daily Mail. "But not me. I already knew because she tells me everything—she's not afraid to say anything to me. We're super-tight and I'm very proud of our relationship."
Even though Lily-Rose has made a name for herself as a high-fashion model, she's certainly going to need parental advice considering she's only 16. The 52-year-old father of two, fortunately, is prepared to give any and all advice his daughter could ever need or want.
"And, whatever she is doing, if she needs any advice, I'm there for her. Kids are going to make their own decisions, but I guess that the only thing you can do as a parent is to offer support," Depp tells the publication. "And I do."
Growing up is all Lily-Rose seems to be doing these days! Not only has Karl Lagerfeld tapped her to model but she also has already nabbed two film roles. No wonder her dad is caught off guard that his "baby" is now a young adult.
"What's happening to Lily-Rose is something that I didn't expect to happen this early, that's for sure!" he says. "It's such a funny thing when you see your daughter transitioning from your baby, your little girl, to suddenly being a young woman. If you're not really looking for it, you can miss it, and Lily-Rose is on that road already and there's nothing I can do to stop it."
He continues, "...When I see her with make-up and all that stuff, it's really disturbing, because she's a very beautiful girl, and it's all happening so fast."
Even though he's disturbed by her maturity, he will always be on hand to give her the support she needs in her career despite the fact that he didn't want her to enter the entertainment industry. "Her becoming an actress was never my dream or my desire for her, but that's what she enjoys doing, and it's her passion and it's where she ended up," he explains.
"And she's got the goods—she can certainly deliver."
