VevoHer makeup game is as distinct as her voice. As much as you may know the lyrics to "Hello" or "Rolling in the Deep," you probably recognize Adele's signature cat-eye, statement blush and nude lips (thanks to makeup artist Michael Ashton). Some may call it predictable—we call it ever-classic.
In honor of the singer's 25 album release today, put your best Adele face on—with a simplified version inspired by the songstress' trademark beauty look. Master these three main focal points, and the music may not just resonate in your soul—but it'll be seen in your cat-eyes.
The Eyes
This is arguably the most important aspect of the entire look. Take your time! Start off with the eyes to prevent shadow fallout from messing up your foundation.
Step 1: Apply primer to the eye lids.
Step 2: Use a champagne-colored shadow with a pop of shimmer all over the eye lids to start Adele's subtle smoky eye.
Step 3: Using the tip of a crease brush, apply a soft brown shadow to creases of the eyes in a windshield motion, from left to right.
Step 4: In circular motions, apply a darker espresso color only to the outer edges of each eye, blending into the crease but not on it.
Step 5: Most importantly, add fake lashes! Celebs love Ardell Glamour Wispies Black Lashes.
Step 6: Using an angled brush and gel liner, like MAC Fluidline in Blacktrack, outline the shape of the wing, starting from lid center to outer edge. (Use can also use an eyeliner pencil, if it's easier.) Do the other eye. Once both outlines are to your liking, fill in the wings with gel until the line is dark and dramatic. (Pro tip: If you mess up or make your wing too thick, add a second pair of falsies to balance the line out. You're not overdoing it—rumor has it Adele wears up to three pairs at a time!)
Step 7: Smudge the same espresso powder onto the lower lash line.
Step 8: Gently apply mascara (pros love L'Oréal Paris Voluminous Original Mascara) under the lashes to blend and tint your natural lashes into the falsies and to the bottom lashes.
Statement Cheeks
Adele is all about the statement blush, but first, you have to create a subtle contour. While you can use powders to contour, keep in mind powders also oxidize (change color with oxygen).
Step 1: (Pro tip: Lightly wet your foundation brush with water, or something like Caudalie Organic Grape Water, to get the most out of your product.) Apply a liquid foundation one shade darker than your skin around the face's outer edges—the upper forehead, temples, jawline and chin.
Step 2: In circular motions, apply liquid concealer in your natural skin tone under the eyes in a triangle shape and blend well.
Step 3: Then use the same liquid concealer to highlight the areas light naturally touches—the lower forehead, above the top lip, middle of the nose and chin.
Step 4: Set the face with a pressed powder.
Step 5: Most importantly, use a generous amount of pink blush, like Stila Custom Color Blush – Pink, on the cheek bones and apples of the cheeks, so you look like you just stepped outside on a cold winter morning.
Step 6: Blend a translucent powder around the blush to help with any lines of demarcation and to make the blush look more natural.
The Lips
Step 1: Opt for a matte nude lip, like AJ Crimson in Subculture.
Step 2: Then apply a nude liner to outline the lips for a plump effect.
