The brunette Charmed alum debuted a shaved head on Thursday, in photos posted on her Instagram page.
"No hair don't care," she wrote. "Honestly, it's liberating."
McGowan, who played Paige on the WB witch drama on the last four of its eight seasons and also starred in Grindhouse and the Conan the Barbarian reboot, had debuted a short, side-swept hairstyle in August 2014. At the time, she joked that she looked like "Hitler's stoned cousin."
She had also showcased a hair transformation in 2012—she went blond.
On Thursday, McGowan also posted a video showing herself sporting a short haircut and getting her head shaved.
"I don't want it anymore #rebelyell #everythingisart," she wrote.
Female celebs who have sported totally shaved haircuts include singer Sinéad O'Connor, glamour model Amber Rose and Britney Spears, who famously shaved her own head in 2007 in a salon front of paparazzi and a local news station's helicopter amid her much-publicized meltdown.
Several actresses have also shaved their heads for movie roles— Natalie Portman for V for Vendetta, Demi Moore for G.I. Jane, Robin Tunney for Empire Records and Charlize Theron for the 2015 movie Mad Max: Fury Road.
