Nick Offerman, television's dreamiest curmudgeon, is dropping by Brooklyn Nine-Nine on Sunday for a very memorable guest role. The Parks and Recreation star, who can be seen on the current season of FX's Fargo, is playing Frederick, the ex-boyfriend of Andre Braugher's Captain Holt.

"I think it's the first time I'm playing a gay man in my life, which seems like it would've come a lot earlier," the man formerly (and always in our hearts) known as Ron Swanson says in E! News' exclusive behind-the-scenes featurette. "I mean, I feel like I have a lot of the right ingredients to work the tenderloin. It's a nice bucket list item to get checked off."

Holt and Peralta (Andy Samberg) have a less-than-ideal Thanksgiving encounter with Frederick when they need his assistance, but he's still holding on to a grudge from the past and isn't really willing to help out.

"I collect wooden duck decoys and [Holt] threw away one of my favorites that he thought was ugly," Offerman explains of his character's reluctance to cooperate. Yep, sounds like an Offerman character we still deeply adore.

Watch the clip above to hear more from Offerman about his guest appearance on Brooklyn. The episode, "Ava," airs Sunday and will also feature Terry (Terry Crews) leaving Jake in charge of entertaining his pregnant wife while he and Rosa (Stephanie Beatriz) go to Rikers to learn more about the Douglass Street murders. Naturally, Sharon's water will break sooner than anticipated, throwing the precinct into crisis. (But really, what else is new?)

Brooklyn Nine-Nine airs Sundays at 8:30 p.m. on Fox.
