If this is any indication of what's to come, then we know this for certain: The 2016 awards season's red carpets are guaranteed to be mind-blowing.

C'mon—this parade of gowns is more like a haute couture runway show than two combined carpets. With both the Baby2baby Gala and the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences Governors Awards taking place over the weekend, there were ample sartorial opportunities for starlets to test drive their awards season styles.

And test away, they did—really, this high-fashion display rivals any major event.

Really, can't you just imagine Jessica Alba gracing the upcoming Golden Globes in this whimsical mustard Giambattista Valli gown, complete with a keyhole halter and a cascading train? And Kerry Washington totally could've saved this black tulle ball gown with delicate pale pink petals—Giambattista Valli Haute Couture—for something like the SAG Awards. Which makes us wonder, hmmm—could she have an even more show-stopping collection of dresses in store come this spring?

Also on our radar at the Baby2Baby gala was Gwen Stefani, who kept her glowing break-over style going in a sculpted laser-cut Marchesa confection, and also Jaime King in a regal embellished Naeem Khan number. And of course Jenna Dewan-Tatum kept up with the pack, mesmerizing in an emerald Monique Lhuillier with pre-spring floral embellishments.

Meanwhile at the Governors Awards, there was a rival red carpet showcase that began with Helen Mirren, who at age 70, put many to shame in an exquisite Dolce & Gabbana gown. Was it Oscar-worthy? We think: Absolutely!

Now Rooney Mara wasn't intimidated though, rocking her usual edgy-elegant style in a soft-ruffles-meets-sharp-blazer Alexander McQueen. Rachel Weisz clearly got the go-glam-or-go-home memo as well, effectively dropping jaws in a dark floral Oscar de la Renta. And rounding out this best dressed bunch, both Gugu Mbatha-Raw and Carey Mulligan whipped out pristine midis, by Jason Wu and Jonathan Saunders respectively.

Whew—now that's a best dressed list. Message received, ladies: Come this spring, we expect even greater gowns!
