The Dark One's plan has finally been revealed!

Tonight's double episode of Once Upon a Time achieved a whole lot, and not all of it is very happy, especially if you're still invested in a certain couple involving a pirate and a so-called savior.

In the first hour, Emma's plan was finally explained: She had intended to transfer her darkness into a post-baby Zelena then get rid of her once and for all with Excalibur. That sounds like a nice plan and all, especially after she had sped up Zelena's pregnancy to get her baby girl out a few (seven) months early, but that's not the only thing Emma's done.

In a battle at Camelot, Hook was nicked by Excalibur, and Emma did the only thing she could to save him: turn him into a Dark One too.

Needless to say, Hook was not even a little thrilled about that, so by the time the first episode was up, he was plotting with Zelena to take Emma down.

"So much for our future, Swan," he said, breaking our CaptainSwan-loving hearts.

Hour two was pretty much irrelevant to hour one, but it was a fun trip to DunBroch to revisit a few much-loved and much-missed characters, including Mulan and Ruby. It turns out that Mulan was the warrior who trained Merida to fight, and Ruby was Mulan's wolf friend. That led to Mulan and Ruby hanging out, which was actually a pairing we didn't know we wanted but are glad to have.

There was also something about a magic helmet that was supposed to protect Merida's father in battle, but he didn't wear it and ended up being killed by King Arthur, and in actuality, the helmet was designed to help Merida in leading her kingdom.

We were definitely happy to have some explanation for Ruby leaving Storybrooke, which we got through a flashback. When Ruby felt like she didn't fit in, she explained to Snow that she had a magic bean to get back to the Enchanted Forest, where she could find more people like her.

It was all a fun storyline, but it was a complete departure from what we had just watched, and all we really wanted was to find out what happened next Storybrooke. Guess we'll have to wait for that, but it won't be a fun wait.
