NBC's Saturday Night Live is standing with the people of Paris.
In place of a cold open sketch, cast member Cecily Strong delivered a touching and powerful message to the city's residents, a day after at least 129 people died in attacks ISIS terrorists carried out in six locations.
"Paris is the city of light and here in New York City, we know that light will never go out," she said. "Our love and support is with everyone there tonight. We stand with you."
She then repeated the tribute in French.
"Paris, c'est la ville lumière," she said. "Ici, à New York City, nous savons que cette lumière ne s'éteindra jamais. On vous envoie tout notre amour et notre soutien ce soir. Nous sommes de tout coeur avec vous."
On Sept. 29, 2001, the first SNL episode after the Sept. 11 attacks in New York City, Washington D.C. and Pennsylvania by al-Qaeda terrorists, NYC Mayor Rudy Giuliani and members of the New York City Fire Department appeared on the show's cold opening to deliver a message of solidarity and hope.
Saturday's episode continued as usual after Strong's moving appearance. Elizabeth Banks hosted, while Disclosure performed, along with special guest Lorde and Sam Smith.
On Friday, Stephen Colbert got emotional on The Late Show while talking about the Paris attacks.
Also on Friday, NBC opted not to air a weekly live performance of its sitcom Undateable in wake of the attacks, while its cast members paid tribute to the people of Paris and the victims of the attacks with a moving photo.
