Hey there, Alber Elbaz: Welcome to the club!

After years of holding out, the famed former Lanvin creative director is now on Instagram. Until this point, Elbaz was among the few designer greats left to have not traversed into the social media world. But since his jaw-dropping departure from Lanvin (where he invested more than 14 years) last month, it would seem the Moroccan-born designer is making big changes in his life.

And first and foremost, that's starting with a growing online presence.

HUGE hugs+BIG thanks ??to all of you around the world ????for showing me so much L??VE. The day after my last show ??????????in PARIS???? , I met with Kevin Systrom, the co-founder of Instagram. "HUGE hugs+BIG thanks to all of you around the world for showing me so much [love]. The day after my last show in Paris , I met with Kevin Systrom, the co-founder of Instagram. I joked and told him… I don't do Instagram because I don't have 'photogenic' friends...only good friends," the 54-year-old captioned his inaugural post (a selfie, naturally).

"And I don't take pictures of food," he quipped.

Think back to Elbaz's last Lanvin show at this past Paris Fashion Week (which we now know to be his final with the label), we're left thinking….hmmm. Perhaps Elbaz already had a plan in motion take the Insta-verse by storm regardless of his situation with Lanvin, especially considering he's apparently pals with the company's co-founder.

And have we even mentioned how stoked Eva Chen, former editor-in-chief of Lucky and current head of fashion at Insta, is about all this?

"Let's give a warm Instagram welcome to the legendary Alber Elbaz!" she wrote. "He just joined @instagram and has his fish gape/duck face ready!! Follow him@alberelbaz8."

Now recall Elbaz's speech at the Fashion Group International's Night of Stars just days before his Lanvin exit, in which the designer had an interesting take on the whole Instagram-famous designers sensations (think along the lines of Balmain's Olivier Rousteing).

"We live in a time of being photogenic, " he began. "I was asked the other day if I had a personal Instagram. And I said, 'Not really.' And they said, 'How come?' And I said, 'I don't really have photogenic friends, I only have good friends. And I also don't take photos of the food. I eat food. But I'm addicted to Instagram. I love it. And I just met Kevin, the founder of Instagram, and I love him for being so smart. Not just smart, but humble. And that's a nice combination," he remarked, making many of the same points as he did in his first-ever Insta caption.

While the timing may be interesting, who cares? We're just as stoked as Eva to welcome Alber to the Insta-verse.
