Rob Lowe is all for people watching TV, but he doesn't want anyone to do it alone.
The Parks and Recreation alum appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live! Wednesday to talk about his new series, The Grinder, and debuted a new commercial for an app that brings people together...to watch The Grinder. Starring in the new ad, Lowe introduced the world to Grindr.
Yes, that Grindr. Obviously, Lowe was mistaken.
"Every Tuesday night millions of Americans are watching The Grinder alone," Lowe said in the ad. "Imagine having to laugh out loud nonstop for 30 minutes straight all by yourself. But now imagine you don't have to thanks to this very cool app I discovered called Grindr."
If you're unsure of what Grindr is, allow Lowe to explain. "Grindr is a neat networking app that lets guys who like watching The Grinder connect with other guys in their area who also like watching The Grinder, so they can meet up to watch The Grinder. How fun is that?!"
(We have to wonder whether Lowe was challenged to say The Grinder as many times as possible in a short amount of time.)
He further explained how the social networking app worked, highlighting its Tinder-like qualities. "You just open the app and scroll through hundreds of men who share your passion for bold network comedy," he said.
Eventually Lowe found a winner with whom he could watch his new network show.
"Oh this guy's DTF," Lowe said upon choosing his Grinder-watching partner. "So am I!"
"Definite television fan," he clarified.
When his new acquaintance arrived, it immediately becomes clear that these two had very different intentions for their evening together. But it looked like the Brothers and Sisters star got to watch his show with a "friend."
Lowe's commercial parody is probably a result of all the questions he has received regarding his show's title. In a candid interview with Vulture, Lowe addressed the incessant questions about the iPhone app and if it has anything to do with his show.
"Oh, this is my favorite thing!" Lowe said. "News flash: We're being funny on purpose. You can all rest easy."
