Vicki Gunvalson's love tank may be fuller than fans think.

After E! News exclusively confirmed that Brooks Ayers was never treated for cancer at City of Hope, his ex-girlfriend still appears to have a soft spot for him.

A source close to Gunvalson believes she's "absolutely still in love with Brooks. She talks about missing him. She's dating other people here and there, but she's not over Brooks."

Another source added, "They have texted a lot in the past few weeks and they've spoken a couple of times." As to why Gunvalson tweeted earlier this week that she will never "ever speak to him again," that remains to be answered.

The news comes shortly after Ayers broke his silence on his cancer treatment controversy. After a representative for City of Hope medical center confirmed that they have never treated anyone by the name of "David Brooks Ayers" at their facilities, the Real Housewives of Orange County star expressed his "regret" about fabricating documents.

"Words cannot express the deep regret that I have in fabricating documents to 'prove' to the world that I, in fact, have cancer. What I did was wrong and inexcusable. I acted alone, without Vicki's knowledge, to produce documents for a reality TV show in hopes of putting doubts about my cancer to rest," Ayers told E! News. "I never intended to disclose my actual medical records or details about my private and personal medical history, thus the rationalization of presenting documents that weren't true simply for a 'storyline' for the show."

As headlines continue to surround Ayers' inconsistencies about his cancer treatment, other castmembers are speculating as to how much Gunvalson knew.

"My original thought was that he told her he had cancer so that she would stay with him, and at some point she figured out it wasn't true. But then she made the decision to keep the lie going," Tamra Judge told E! News earlier this week. "That's the part I don't understand…why would someone do that?"

Shannon Beador added, "I am still trying to connect the dots. It doesn't make sense that Vicki would say she spent four hours with Brooks for chemo at the City of Hope when he was never treated there. The truth always comes out."

Despite the speculation, our source says Gunvalson feels "terrible" for everything that has transpired in the public eye.

"I think she feels terrible about everything that's happened. If it weren't for her position in the spotlight, Brooks' character would never have been called into question so publicly," our insider shared. "When things were good with them, she was really happy and they had a lot of fun. She's sad that it's over."
