Chris Martin is revealing new details about his split from Gwyneth Paltrow.

Though notoriously private, the Coldplay singer sat down with Australian radio 2DayFM during the debut of Rove & Sam and admitted to hitting a low point in his life before they ended their 10-year marriage.

"A few years ago I was in a low place in my life and was feeling kind of down and confused," the 38-year-old father of two admitted. "Some friends gave me a book called Man's Search for Meaning, and a poem called ‘The Guest' House by an Afghanistani poet, teacher, and those two things started me off on this whole journey that's ended up a few years later now where I just feel so happy to be alive."

For someone who has everything going for him—a successful career, two beautiful children and so on—he admits, candidly, "That may sound a little simple but I suddenly feel very grateful for all these things in my life."

He adds, "I just feel happy to be alive and if it's coming across then that's because it's real."

Paltrow and Martin announced their separation in March 2014 after 10 years of marriage. Since then, they have worked together in co-parenting their children, Apple, 11, and Moses, 9, and working on an amicable relationship.

Over the summer, Paltrow opened up about parenting with her ex. "It's definitely imperfect but it gets easier with time and you know, we're really good friends," she explained. "I like him. He's great. He's a great dad and so, I feel lucky that we both, along the way, have been able to really put down our own stuff while we're together with the family and that we make it a priority to be together so that the transition for the children wasn't, you know, as brutal as it could be."

Meanwhile, both have also found new relationships. Though they split up in August, Martin was previously linked to Jennifer Lawrence following his divorce, while Paltrow confirmed her romance with Brad Falchuk in September.
