Trevor Noah had to undergo an emergency appendectomy Wednesday morning, but come Thursday he was already back at his desk.

The Daily Show host talked about his quick leave of absence and opened up about his experience at the hospital, which he made sure to thank before joking about his medical emergency. He opened his show by addressing some of the critics who claimed he wouldn't be a good host because he isn't from the U.S. Little did they know he would soon get to know America.

"What better way [to experience the U.S.] than to experience America's health care system for myself," he joked. "It was an interesting experience going to the emergency room, although I don't know if 'emergency room' is the right term because they make you wait."

He recalled being forced to sit in excruciating pain in the waiting room. "I feel like there should be two rooms: a room for emergencies and a room for people who can fill out forms," Noah continued.

A woman at the front desk repeatedly told him he had to fill out the required forms despite doubling over in pain. Asking to see a doctor immediately, Noah was told, "I need you to fill out the forms first."

When that wasn't enough, she asked for more information. "What other information do you need other than the fact that I'm dying," he joked.

Then the anonymous clerk had to ask him about the hot-button issue of health insurance. "How are you paying for this?" she asked him.

"Well, with my life clearly because you're not helping me," he said, recalling his immense pain.

We're so glad to see the 31-year-old comedian emerged from his surgery better than ever, and what better way to return than with hilarious anecdotes from a rough time. As E! News predicted, Noah used his appendectomy for hilarious material, and we weren't disappointed.

The Daily Show with Trevor Noah airs weeknights at 11 p.m. ET.
