When you have a cast full of incredibly attractive people on a TV show, it's only natural to pair up your characters in as many permutations as possible. Who doesn't want to see hot people hooking up with each other? On The Vampire Diaries, Caroline (Candice King) is now officially dating Stefan (Paul Wesley), meaning she has now dated Stefan, Matt (Zach Roerig) and Tyler (Michael Trevino), and hooked up with Damon (Ian Somerhalder). Not too shabby!

So it's not unusual for these hot folks to date one another—but the show's next big couple is one you won't see coming at all. In beginning of "Live Through This," we'll see a flash-forward that will introduce a relationship comprised of two very opposite characters whom you wouldn't really expect to get together—ever. (Yes, it is very hot. And no, it's not Stefan and Damon, you gross weirdos.)

The flash-forwards are part of a bigger storyline that will develop eventually, teases executive producer Caroline Dries, once we see where the characters find themselves three years from now.

"We're just trying to hit where everyone is right now, which I know is frustrating because it takes so long to hit everyone," she admits. "But it's just to give you a flavor of the world we're at and then we'll start to tell an actual linear story once you're oriented."

The relationship shocker isn't the only big piece of news from the episode. "Stefan learns a bombshell from his past as we start to understand the depths of Valerie's resentment," Dries says, "and it will cause a problem in Caroline and Stefan's relationship."

The Vampire Diaries airs Thursdays at 8 p.m. on The CW.
