Tina Rowden/The CWSure, we know that The Vampire Diaries' most handsome and irresponsible teacher, Alaric Saltzman (Matt Davis), is a dad in the tumblr sense of the word. But after Thursday's episode, which featured a flash-forward showing the grieving widower as a father of two small children, we're thinking he might actually be an actual dad too.
Like, a father. To twins! Meaning...something super crazy and supernatural is happening here, because as we know, his pregnant wife was massacred by the evil Kai shortly after Alaric and Jo (Jodi Lyn O'Keefe) tied the knot at the end of season six. And sure, she was resurrected using some questionable magic at the end of this week's episode, but even if that sticks, there's no guarantee the twins she was carrying made it back to life as well.
So, we ask: How on Earth is it possible for Alaric to have kids—twin daughters, no less? We have a couple of theories, but since this is TVD and anything can happen, we'd love to hear what you think might be going on.
Here's what we came up with:
Jo lives! At the end of the episode, Bonnie and Alaric had succeeded in resurrecting the murdered bride. Maybe the Phoenix Stone isn't evil at all, and she and Alaric will live happily ever after with their also-resurrected babies and absolutely no negative side effects whatsoever!
It's a dream. A really sad, mournful dream, but a dream nonetheless.
There's a different baby mama. Listen, a man with such an incredible head of hair and a brooding face like that does not escape the notice of the women around him. Maybe he quickly meets someone else and she gets pregnant, and twins happen to run in her family too?
It's an alternate universe. Hey, if there are 52 Earths on The Flash, maybe there's more than one in the TVD world.
He took in a couple of orphans and is raising them by himself. Hey, he did it before.
