Welcome to the mix!

More than a year after George Clooney and Amal Clooney got married in Italy, the actor and barrister have welcomed a new addition to their family: a 4-year-old basset hound named Millie! The Clooneys also have a pair of rescued cocker spaniels, one of whom was there on adoption day.

The couple posed for a picture with their canine friends at the San Gabriel Valley Humane Society in California. "Despite those adorable googly eyes, pretty long ears, and shorty legs, Millie was found without a home and hoping for food scraps outside of a local restaurant in San Gabriel earlier this month," the shelter wrote in an announcement on its website Thursday. "Today her luck changed for the better when she was adopted by George and Amal Clooney."

The Clooneys found out about Millie while browsing the pet adoption search site Petfinder. According to the San Gabriel Valley Human Society, they were looking for bassets in particular. "They did a 'meet and greet' with her and spent time introducing her to their other rescue, a cocker spaniel named Louie," the shelter said. "It was good news that Millie and Louie hit it off and the happy, new family headed home together! We hope Millie will stay in touch and send photos."

Both George and Amal are big animal lovers. The Academy Award-winning actor and producer, who once had a pet pig named Max, adopted his dog Einstein in 2010. In an Esquire essay the following year, the Hail, Caesar! star recalled his first meeting with the cocker spaniel, saying, "I start to panic that Einstein is not going to like me. So I run into the kitchen, where I have these turkey meatballs, and I rub them all over my shoes. This woman opens the door, and who knew Einstein was such a food whore on top of everything? He throws himself at my feet. She says, 'I've never seen him react like that, ever!' And she left him with me on the spot. And forever, now, he just thinks of me as the guy with meatball feet. He loves me. I can do no wrong. He follows me everywhere."
