"Can you imagine being First Lady?"

Turns out Olivia Pope has, and it doesn't look like she's too keen on the idea. At least not under these current circumstances. In this exclusive sneak peek of Thursday's new episode of Scandal, an option to keep Liv (Kerry Washington) from having to testify before Senate in Fitz's (Tony Goldwyn) impeachment hearing has presented itself. Only, it will require her to continue a life of "no privacy, no sense of personal space," as Abby (Darby Stanchfield) puts it.

And if you thought the chance to marry Fitz is all that Olivia's wanted, well, her pointed pause after Abby asks whether the marriage option is a good one ought to tell you all you need to know.

Beyond Olivia and Fitz wrestling with the use of marriage as a "get out of jail, free" card, this week will see Mellie (Bellamy Young) being put through the wringer when she's confronted about her troubled marriage. Elsewhere, the Gladiators continue to mount their Olivia defense, and Susan Ross (Artemis Pebdani) turns to David Rosen (Joshua Malina) for advice, which means, yay, David will be in an episode!

Be sure to press play on the video above to see Abby's hilarious reaction to being in the President's bedroom, as well as the lengths Liv's considering going to avoid the marriage option. Hint: They're not exactly legal.

Love, it's a confusing thing in Shondaland.

Scandal airs Thursdays at 9 p.m. on ABC.
