So…about last night's The Walking Dead. Your spoiler warning is right here. This is it. Stop reading unless you want to be spoiled. Last chance!
Anyway, where were we? Oh yeah, last night's The Walking Dead: We're all in agreement Glenn (Steven Yeun) is still alive, right? Right. Here's the evidence.
First off, there's no way a guy would still be awake if zombies were ripping out his insides like we saw on screen. Nicholas clearly fell on him.
Glenn's death has been rumored for what feels like forever because it happened fairly long ago in the comic book series. Robert Kirkman riled fans up with the possibility of it on @Midnight not so long ago. But in the comics, Glenn meets his maker at the hands of villain Negan. We haven't met him yet. And—and this is a big and!—The Walking Dead TV show has deviated from the comics a lot. Andrea is no longer on the show. Andrea is still in the comics. Carol in the comics and Carol in the show are two wildly different people. Rick still has a hand (for now), Carl still has an eye (for now) and Daryl exists solely in the show. Glenn doesn't need to die on the show…but fans are certainly waiting for it.
When we caught up with Yeun at the season six premiere in New York in early October, he said this when asked if he was tired of getting asked when Glenn would die on the show: "We do hear that. It is written, but he is a resilient dude. I think he's gotten himself out of pretty ridiculous circumstances, but we'll see, we'll see when it's time to tell that story or if it's ever time to tell that story."
Sure, it doesn't mean he's alive or dead. But there was no post-mortem with him, an intentionally vague and cagey answer from showrunner Scott Gimple on Talking Dead and no cast members tweeting about how much they'll miss working with him, etc. Even Laurie Holden, Andrea on the show, tweeted "I totally don't buy it." Sure it could've been about anything, but the timing (10 hours ago at time of this story posting) works out that it's about The Walking Dead. Plus, according to fansite, The Spoiling Dead Fans, Yeun has still been spotted filming. Of course that's not confirmed, but the evidence they have is pretty compelling.
"Dear fans of The Walking Dead," Gimple's statement on Talking Dead began. "This is a hard story to tell, and when we were planning to tell it, we know our friends at The Walking Dead would be talking to you about it, and we knew we should say something about it, lest our silence say something we didn't mean to say or not say. So I'll say this: In some way, we will see Glenn, some version of Glenn, or parts of Glenn again, either in flashback, or in the current story, to help complete the story."
Alive? Dead? We shall see (but he's probably really alive). The Walking Dead airs Sundays 9 p.m. on AMC.
