Selena Gomez signals she will always be wary about trusting others after declaring earlier this year she doesn't "trust anyone."

The 23-year-old pop star stopped by Elvis Duran and the Z100 Morning Show to talk about her life and her new, second studio album, Revival, which contains her first new solo songs in two years. During that time, she has dealt with aggressive body-shamers and the chronic illness lupus, as well as a breakup from on-again, off-again boyfriend and fellow pop star Justin Bieber.

In an interview on the radio show in July, Gomez said, "I don't trust anyone...It's something that I have to live with and I have to find the balance of who I want in my life and who isn't good for me."

"I feel like I can say I have a sense of judgment, but I think it will always be there, you know," she said during the new interview, which aired on Tuesday, "There will always be that question mark of, 'Who is this person and do I trust them?' That always happens."

"My happiness is not dictated on this business," she also said. "Once I realized that, everything kind of changed. I love what I do, I can't imagine doing anything else but ultimately my goal is to be happy and have a family. That's my life."

The singer finds support from her family and friends. Among her pals: Taylor Swift, who has a star-studded "squad" of female besties.

"Especially now, they're just constantly pinning women against other women," Gomez said on the show. "It's really annoying. So now I think it's changing a little bit. You are kind of having a quote-unquote 'squad' and you're able to look at other women and embrace them and love them and tell them how awesome they are. There's just not enough of that! People and girls can be catty and I think it's nice to be able to be okay with each other."

"And in general, obviously, I have best friends who are in the industry and you understand it. You're not like, 'Why didn't you call me?' It's more like, 'Hey I get it, and how's it going?'" she said. "You pick up where you left off."

Revival was released last week. Gomez showcases a different, more mature sound.

"Not even just from the last album, I think people still think I'm 16. Which is fair, because sometimes I still look 16," she said. "But I think ultimately it's confidence, so I'll start with that. Going into this album, new label, I did executive produce it so I had to come in with full control and you can hear it!"
