This game is over!

One year after Penelope Cruz heated up the cover of Esquire's "Sexiest Woman Alive" issue, the publication has crowned a new winner.

Ladies and gentlemen, meet the beautiful Emilia Clarke!

Lying topless in a luxurious bed, the Game of Thrones star lets her hair down as she poses for the cover with a small blanket covering her butt. Things only get hotter inside the issue when the 28-year-old wears sexy lingerie that reveals plenty of cleavage and butt.

"Half pal, half dominatrix. Half kid sister, half sexy queen. The movie star who plays, in her real life, an anonymous, funny beauty," writer Benjamin Markovits shares in the November issue. "This is the gorgeous balance of Emilia Clarke."

While the pictures are enough to create buzz, fans may just find themselves intrigued to find out how the A-list star received her roll on Game of Thrones.

Growing up with a driven mother who turned into a marketing Vice President and a father was worked his way up to become a sound designer for a number of big-budget musicals in London, Clarke knew her parents wanted her to succeed.

"They didn't want me to go to boarding school," she admitted. "I wanted to. My brother was already going and I fancied his friends."

Fast-forward a few years later when Clarke's agent called and asked if she ever considered auditioning for a role on Game of Thrones.

"My agent told the casting director, ‘I know that the breakdown for this character is tall and willowy and blonde. I know she's short and round and brown, but I'd like you to see her,'" Clarke recalled. "I had two scenes which told me nothing and not very much time in which to read all those books. So I did what every good actor does and Wikipedia'd the living crap out of it."

As viewers know, whatever Clarke did totally work. She's one of the biggest stars of the series and many fans can't get enough. When asked why she may have landed the role, the actress has an idea.

[They wanted] someone who could grow before your eyes in one season," she shared. "Who could gather strength and show vulnerability, they wanted the arc…"

Something tells us there is much more of Clarke to come!
