So, now you've seen the season seven premiere of The Vampire Diaries. You probably have a lot of questions, and they probably start with the following: WTF IS HAPPENING?!

The first episode without Nina Dobrev's Elena brought us a crazy flash-forward, an angry, vengeful woman hunting down our favorite Mystic Falls residents in the present, one hunting them down in the future, and a bunch of scary-ass new characters. Let's examine all the new developments!

1. TVD is moving to Brooklyn! The opening scene revealed that the Salvatore brothers will make their way to the hippest of NYC boroughs at some point in the upcoming few years. Damon will be chilling in a coffin until Elena wakes up, and Stefan will need his help. For what?

2. Someone is after Future Stefan. And that someone—a she, we learned—is MAD AS HELL.

3. Steroline is real, y'all. Silly Caroline, thinking she needed time before she could give in to her feelings for Stefan. Thank goodness that didn't last too long.

4. Matt's a cop! Too bad the rest of his class didn't live through their graduation ceremony thanks to the new bad guys in town.

5. The Heretics are not pleased. Stefan and Caroline's attempt to drive them out of town kind of backfired, doing the opposite and forcing our good guys to evacuate the city of humans and give up the Salvatore Manor to Lily and her acolytes. Speaking of…

6. Stefan and Damon's mommy issues aren't getting better. "The relationship with Damon and his mother is pretty rocky, pretty volatile," Ian Somerhalder teases in the video above. "She scolds him a lot even though he's 174. She's not exactly happy with what her son is doing, and he's not exactly happy with what his mother's doing and they just can't seem to come to an understanding." Put simply? "They f---ing hate each other."
