Watch: "Vampire Diaries" Makes Major Changes in Season 6

You've heard this before, but the newest bad guys on The Vampire Diaries are really bad. Like, REALLY bad. You thought Kai was bad for murdering a pregnant woman on her wedding day and binding Elena and Bonnie together in a Sleeping Beauty spell?

That's nothing compared to the Heretics, who are taking over Mystic Falls (and are likely the cause of the future dystopian mess we saw in the flash-forward at the end of season six).

"We're pretty bad," confesses Elizabeth Blackmore, who plays Heretic ringleader (and the right-hand woman of Lily, Stefan and Damon's mother) Valerie. But it's not like there's no reason for their discontent. "Look, we're figuring out how to adjust to the modern world. We are from 100 years ago, we were put into a prison world as you saw at the end of season six, and we've just been unleashed and released back into today's crazy modern society."

And while you'll probably hate them for what they're doing to Mystic Falls, star Paul Wesley confesses that he is a fan. "I love the Heretics, actually. They really kick in in the fourth and fifth episode. You really like them in terms of the dynamic they bring to the show," he tells E! News during a visit to the TVD set. "They're old, so they're wise, and I like that. It's a little reminiscent of the Originals."

In the premiere, we'll see the storyline bounce between present-day Mystic Falls and three years from now, something star Candice King explains will eventually pay off in a big way.

"We're going to see how Mystic Falls became the way it is now," she reveals. "There's some really fun flash-forwards. That's coming up in season seven, which has been my favorite to read about and to also try to guess what's happening because I still can't put the puzzle pieces together."
