Rihanna has finally answered our question.
Back in March, we asked, er, "What's going on with Rihanna's style lately?"—after noting the singer's looks steering exclusively toward chunky fur coats, baggy jeans, distressed combat boots, sweats and oversized, well, everything. And now, in her November cover story for Vanity Fair, the singer is finally spilling on why her style has been the epitome of dressed down and covered up. (And no, it's not just because of her creative director role curating sporty goods for Puma.)
In short: That naked dress was what pushed the star toward a sartorial revamp.
"I wanted to wear something that looked like it was floating on me," she told the magazine. "But after that, I thought, 'OK, we can’t do this again for a while. No nipples, no sexy s--t, or it’s going to be like a gimmick.' That night was like a last hurrah; I decided to take a little break from that and wear clothes." (There you go!)
Rihanna is decidedly candid in the issue, in which she dishes on her career choices, past relationships (yes, that one) and sex life (or lack thereof). But we're still stuck on her bold style move. Read on for the best of her "no sexy s--t" looks below:
There was that time she wore blinding, Christmastime-hued stripes in Paris.
And then this comfy airport get-up.
Riri still supports bedtime fashion.
And long dresses over pants, apparently. (P.S. Check the blue lip color—part of her lipstick exploration this year, too.)
Then there were these furry floor-sweepers Simone Rocha slippers.
And this lite-brite stole.
Cookie Monster called, he...nevermind.
Late night studio sesh calls for max comfort, people.
This look was actually pretty expensive.
Hello, boots.
Pretty (dressed down) in pink, wouldn't you say?
