Students are supposed to go to college to continue learning, but it seems they're doing everything but that.

Black students invited to attend a welcome week at UCLA were disheartened to see a fraternity allegedly hosted a "Kanye Western" party where students dressed up in do-rags and made fun of black culture, according to NBC News. Sigma Phi Epsilon, a predominately white fraternity, reportedly threw the party.

About 150 students attended.

"Why do kids not know that it's wrong to go to parties like this? Why are we still having these same basic conversations?" UCLA student Andrena Collins told NBC News.

The African Student Union also reacted to the alleged party and told the news organization that they're not pleased with Sigma Phi Epsilon's choice. "We don't really know who was in that party. But pictures we saw—blackface without the paint," said Janay Williams, chair of the African Student Union.

"There were people dressed in like do-rags, people dressed as 'thugs, rappers.' Just making a mockery of Black culture."

Sigma Phi Epsilon and the African Student Union have since decided to stage a meeting to discuss the alleged incident, but there will also be a larger meeting for other students to attend. "I don't think that it's everybody," Collins said. "I think there are people that are supporters, and that do believe that this is an issue."

UCLA also issued a statement about the party, obtained by NBC News.

"We are concerned about these allegations and earnestly working to gather information about what occurred, talking to all those involved. While we do not yet have all the facts, the alleged behavior is inconsistent with good judgment as well as our principles of community," the statement reads. "We remind students that while they are free to celebrate in ways that draw on popular culture, their specific choices can cause harm and pain to fellow members of their community. Put simply: Just because you can do something does not mean you should."
