JosiahW/AKM-GSICathriona White's friends and family are mourning their tragic loss since she took her own life in an apparent suicide, and now they're sharing heartfelt memories of their beloved friend.
Jim Carrey's girlfriend died earlier this week of a possible overdose, and since then the actor and her family have released statements that describe their shock and sadness. Now, her friends are reminding everyone of the wonderful person that was Cathriona.
Joshua Schultz, one of Cathriona's friends, posted a lengthy tribute to his friend on Instagram, where he included a black-and-white photo of the two of them. In his caption he recalled how thoughtful she was and called her "the sweetest kindest person."
"Dear Cat, my dear friend. I am going to miss you. I remember the first time we hung out and we cried laughing watching Zoolander. Or when you dropped everything to help me plan and throw my first art show," he wrote. "Or the last time I saw you. You dropped everything to come take care of me because I was sick. You brought me tea and vitamins. You are the sweetest kindest person I ever had the honor of calling my friend. I love you and I miss you. RIP. you are truly loved."
Another one of her dear friends, who goes by the Instagram handle canvasscandal, shared fond memories of her friend, who was battling clinical depression. Despite her ongoing struggles, Cathriona reached out to her friend who also seemed to be having a tough time.
"The last text I got from Cat read 'Hey babe, checking on you, if you need me I'm here for you and I love you' well, that was on Sept 22nd, and now today she's gone," she began her caption. "She was in pain herself, but checking on me to see what I needed. That really sums up who she was. I valued her friendship so much, because I can count on one hand how many people who ask how I am, or even give a f--k about me at all."
She continued, "Last month I was helping her at her house and all we did was laugh, she let me drag her to spin class, hiking and every other workout you could possibly imagine, and want to kill me after. When someone takes their life, we all think about what we could have done, if anything. The truth is most of us are so consumed with our own "busyness" and we aren't there for eachother the way we should be, and when these things happen we're reminded again of how important friendship is and how soon we can lose eachother. She was loved by so many of us and we will continue to love her and talk about her and celebrate her life. I hope you're at peace baby girl."
Another one of her friends, Chris Paul, posted a group picture with Cathriona and wrote a lengthy explanation about the facts and myths of mental illness and clinical depression.
"When you tell someone else that their situation can be solved as easily as yours was, you're diminishing a very serious situation that can potentially have life-threatening consequences," he wrote. "At the very least, you're discouraging someone from treatment that can lead to living a better, happier life, all while believing you're providing positive support.
"Cat was a lovely girl who I only ever knew to be smiling and talkative, but each of us have the side that other people don't get to see," he continued. "There's nothing that can change what happened, but there are things that can stop these things from happening to you or the people you love. If you think you have a problem, seek treatment. If you have a friend with a problem, encourage them to."
Other friends took to Instagram as well to fondly remember their friend, recalling her gorgeous smile and the memories she left behind.
"I'll always picture you dancing. That smile that lit up a room," Drew McAnany captioned a picture. "Thank you for all the wonderful memories, with those you live forever."
"To my friend, Cat. I will miss you so much," Daniel Villalobos posted. "The world needs and deserved your light. I hope you find the peace you were looking for."
"She is my conscience. My rock. My angel on earth. She is and always will be. I love you #angel #iloveyou #spinsetersforlife #wce @littleirishcat #CatWhite," wrote Jenny Burpee.
