Mother Monster goes high fashion for Tom Ford

No fancy invitations, no coveted front row seats, nada—Tom Ford has taken his spring 2016 collection straight to the people, and he enlisted Lady Gaga for the task.

Forgoing a traditional runway presentation, the designer's chosen to show his new collection in a high-fashion music video set to the tune of the Chic's "I Want Your Love" (revamped by Mother Monster herself). What's more, Ford employs Gaga and her model pals to strut dance down the runway flaunting the maverick designer's new spring garments, which include ample beading, flowing printed tops and a slew of silver textures all splashing down the catwalk-turned-dance floor.

Truthfully, Tom Ford has never been one to err on the side of caution—note those naked Gigi Hadid and Cara Delevingne ads—but bypassing a traditional runway show in favor of a music video? Now that's a bold move even for the man who made nipple pasties a sartorial event (you know the Rihanna naked dress we're alluding to). However in true Tom Ford fashion, the unconventional, disco-inspired runway presentation is as cutting edge as ever.

Note: Ford's fall-winter 2015 show was a non-conventional occasion as well, with a celeb-filled showing in Los Angeles just days before the Oscars.

Moreover, the 54-year-old designer isn't the only high fashion force to forgo a traditional runway presentation this season either. British designer Misha Nonoo curated her presentation for Instagram only, and Burberry opted to showcase their entire spring collection on Snapchat a full day ahead of their London Fashion Week show. So it makes sense that Ford would choose an unorthodox approach to exhibit his latest collection, considering the digital push in fashion coupled with Ford's own cinematic interests (he's currently working on his second directorial effort with the film Nocturnal Animals).

While this is no eccentric models-wearing-models feat (à la Rick Owens), Ford's runway music video is a definitively innovative way to kick things up a notch during fashion week.
